I don't usually write film reviews but felt inclined to do so on this occasion if only to offset the terrible ones of this solid, balanced and unbiased depiction of the hijacking of the Air France flight from Tel Aviv to Paris in 1976. I found this film thought provoking and engaging with a remarkable cast of superb actors portraying very diverse beliefs and convictions. Do not believe the neigh sayers. It is definitely worth watching and deciding for yourself! More like an 8/10 than a 10/10 but I thought I would try to bump up the overall IMDB rating.
Magnificent (by RNMorton)
This is about as good as an on-the-ground depiction of a spectacular event can get. All the actors are flawless, particularly those playing the rival Jewish leaders in their struggle over whether to barter for seized citizens or fight it out. There is a captivating dance number that flows throughout the movie, I have tried to get more info but haven't been able to yet . I can't imagine, b/c I haven't read them yet, why there are strong detractors on this film, but I can say my 12 year old, who is a hard sell and getting harder, thought this movie as fantastic as myself. I thought <more>
the ending a bit rushed but understand the reasons a little better on more thought. Comparable in many many ways to the recent Darkest Hour success. Post-script: Imdb take note there are many suspicious and negative without explanation reviews and ratings for this movie, I guess it hit a nerve somewhere.
Hatred towards Jews only reason for the negative comments. Just uneducated people on here. (by savvygaby)
This is a true story. Israel won Amin lost and the lolife terrorists lost. Haha. Jews are here to stay and always will be. Sorry guys. Nothing you can do about it. Anyone who tries to come after the Jews will be automatically punished. It's a proven fact. So all should love the Jewish people if they do they will be blessed as well fact. Meanwhile great movie.
Great Alternative to empty blockbusters (by Avanesyan)
Great film that holds up pretty well in its attempt to stay neutral and explain personal motivations for both sides rather than putting labels, which is great considering the situation on the Middle East. Great acting. Purposely chosen slow pace helps in character development. There's absolutely nothing that I didn't like about this film PS I talked to some people who watch the movie in the same theater. They were very emotionally impacted. If it's not great filmmaking, then what is it?
faultless (by osmanblt)
Movie is really flawless; acting, soundtracks, scenario, political approach are all perfect. I don't understand why this movie got these ridiculous ratings in the web. Jewish people react such movies which reflect the true emotions of the "other side" as in the same way that Turkish people react to those movies that approach Kurdish issue in a civilized manner -I know this since I live in Turkey-. But this attitude can't give us a fertile environment to develop peaceful relations between Israelis&Palestinians or Turks-&Kurds. How can one claim that these hijackers <more>
did not influence the unseen success of Entebbe operation by preferring not to kill these hostages? How can one claim that these German revolutionaries were just anti-Semite murderers? This feast of art should not be missed.
It is a nothing short of great movie. I loved every single second of it. Two hours flied by like a 10 seconds. It is not just a silly blockbuster flick. It intelligent movie that raises questions about relationship between Israel and Palestine. It also talks about relationship between Israel and the rest of the world. See it!
An interesting watch (by martin-zalcman)
I gotta say, i cant give any credence to these 1/10 reviews that say this movie is biased against israel or that it sympathises with the terrorists. I thought israel and it's officials/soldiers were depicted in as fair a light as anyone can ask for. As for some of the terrorists, yes the movie shows their human side, but rightly so. It seems some of these guys didnt want things to escalate the way they did. And its only fair to show that in the movie. All in all i felt like things were shown in a decently objective way. Not too crazy about the interpretive dancing bits tho.
Telling both sides of the story upsets 'anonymous reviewers' (by MovieFan-91319)
Living in the US, it's rare to see a movie present both sides of a conflict, especially regarding the Israel and Palestine conflict. Right from the start, this movie takes a position as the neutral observer...are these 'Freedom Fighters' or 'Terrorists'? probably depends on where you live I came her fully expecting to see 1 star reviews upvoted to the top of the page by fake accounts. And that's what I found, unfortunately. If hearing/watching both sides of a story bothers you, then you are, in fact, a propagandist. You're trying to control the narrative and you <more>
don't care about what actually happened, or why it happened. Please, take a break from your flag waving. It's okay to listen to both sides. It's okay for other people to hear both sides. It's okay to acknowledge mistakes made by both sides. This is how we learn. All that said, it was a bit slow lol. But I applaud the neutral viewpoint and hope to see many more movies like this.
Good Independent Film About the Raid on Entebbe (by ddobrjansk-66591)
I will forever remember the raid on Entebbe because this is what forced the majo players on the world stage form up military units to take care of terrorism and counter the terrorists attempt at hurting innocents. The movie's POV is more from a political and psychological view point and less from a military one. Knowing some of the military tactics I was slightly disappointed when, after Yoni Netanyahu is killed the film does not show the IDF taking out the tower of the old terminal with an RPG which they did in the real raid, or so I have read they did . Also one IDF squad took out the <more>
new terminal's tower with a recoilless rifle to isolate the sairport further. Minor points in general but to someone, like myself, who is into military tactics it would have been nice to see. Also, this film neglects the story of Dora Bloch who was taken from the Entebbe to a hospital in Uganda's capital and was never seen again, this 'glossing over' of her story was I think a sin of omission on the part of the filmmakers and should have been shown. As we left the theater my wife reminded me that independent films usually take a different view point, and this one did. Overall it was a good telling of the story, although the "Polubilis" dance scenes made no sense as did the comment about the absence of negotiations with Palestinians as of March 2018. Maybe in the wake of ISIS and Al Qaeda, the "freedom fighter" angle on these groups has worn thin.
